So I have decided to get my CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate) Certification. To help prepare for this I have went on a little shopping spree on Ebay. I managed to find older equipment but still very usable and running in production environments all over the world.
Cisco 3620 Router with a NM-1E2W and a WIC-156K CSU/DSU.
Cisco 2610 Router with a WIC-1DSU-56K, 1 10BaseT, 2 Serial Connections and 1 empty module slot.
Cisco Catalyst 2924M-XL-EN with 24 10/100BaseTX ports.
I also got the official certification books and exam guides from the Cisco Press for half off on Amazon! Can’t beat that deal…
I have learned a lot over the past week or so since I have had the equipment. I still have a lot to learn though. I plan on taking the certification exam within the next 6-12 weeks, depending on how much of a pain in the ass subnetting is going to continue to be. Cisco wants us to be able to figure out the math for those problems in 15-30 seconds in our head. IN OUR HEAD! WTF, who the hell ever needs to do subnetting that quickly in the real world. Oh, that’s right, NO ONE!
Ah well, enough of my ranting about the exam. I am very happy with the equipment I have got. I hope to be able to get a WIC-1ADSL card for my 3620 router so that I can hook this bad boy up at home and continue to use this equipment beyond getting my certifications.
Happy New Year Everyone!
I hope that everyone had an amazing 2007 and that amazing things happen in 2008. I have no idea what is in store for me this year. It seems like only yesterday I was still at WMU for sure I was going to be there for the rest of my college career.
Now that I have established my career with Liquid Web. I will most definitely remain in Lansing for all of 2008. Of course, unless something very unforeseen happens.
New Years Eve/Day was pretty amazing. I was supposed to work until midnight, but I managed to get out an hour early. At which point I headed directly to Spiral to meet up with my friends. It was so much fun. Everyone was there, even friends I wasn’t expecting to see. As expected I was very drunk and having a very good time. Dancing, watching the drag show, the strippers, and talking with friends.
The day after was pretty nice as well. I did absolutely nothing. I just hung out with Ryan, Mikey, Jamaul, and Michael J watching Americas Next Top Model. It was a blast none the less.
Happy New Year Everyone!
The Hillsdale Wind Symphony has a new web site. I am currently developing it but most of it is online. You can check it out at http://www.hillsdalewindsymphony.org. Let me know what you think.
Classes finally started on Monday August 20th. I am taking two classes: Skills for Learning in an Information Age and Contemporary Business Communication. So far the classes seem very exciting and enjoyable. I am learning more about how the world uses technology to communicate and learn. Both classes take a chunk of the subject and elaborate on it.
It is kind of weird being in an online program and not physically going to class every day. In a way I like it and in others I absolutely hate it! It is interesting that most of my class is in their 30’s and 40’s with kids and families. I am only 21. It will be fun to take the point of view they bring as other people and apply them to my studies. I hope they do the same with my young point of view.
On August 15th I had my 6 month review. It went really well. My stats are up, my attendance has improved greatly since I have moved to East Lansing. I got the ok to continue scripting to add automated VPS setups to our billing system, so that is very exciting to be able to work on that project. I gave some suggestions to help improve the communication in the company. To my surprise two days later they were implementing some of the ideas. So I am officially no longer a n00b and will be getting a raise in a week or two. Very exciting!
